ABOUT GNARLY RAE JEPSEN
Welcome to the jungle? No. Welcome to the suburbs, an apt salutation for Gnarly Rae Jepsen – New York’s most astoundingly average, bizarrely beloved, and eclectically entertaining 90s and 2000s rock & pop cover band. If you can’t handle the jungle, GRJ will take you on an express ride right to the zoo.
We were founded in 2013 when four dudes in a decrepit East Village bar realized that they could unite their unremarkable musical prowess into something more: a middling cover band. With the pagan decadence and velvet gravel of Aaron Neimer’s vocal chords, Mike Sheen’s erotically escalating basslines, Kerry Bialo’s nonpareil narcotizing drum beats, and Cyrus Weisberg’s charming carnage on the guitar, Gnarly Rae Jepsen (the “artist” formerly known as Flightless Fall – *cringe*) was born.
From now-defunct Irish pubs to shockingly reputable venues like the Lower East Side’s Arlene’s Grocery and Brooklyn’s Saint Vitus Bar, GRJ has climbed from the catacombs of mediocrity to borderline respectability in the community of anonymous NYC cover bands. Stealing clientele from the most reputable community watchlists, GRJ has amassed a cult following of fans of 90s and early 2000s rock/pop hits. Come see us live. Buy an overpriced ticket (buy high, sell low!). Let’s have some fun.
